I Am Singaporean

I have lived in an HDB flat for most of my life.
My favorite hangout was Orchard Road.
My idea of a morning drink consisted of milk and chocolate powder.
My parents both worked a lot leaving me to my maids at home.
I ate at hawker centres for $3 a meal.
I called everyone I knew Uncle or Aunty.
I took the school bus or walked home after school.
Taking the bus was second nature.
My parents paid for everything until I moved out of the house.
National Day means a lot to me.
So does Christmas.
And Chinese New Year.
I enjoyed bustling with human traffic on weekends.
I feel a sense of joy and pride every time I hear about Singapore.
No matter how much I love being in the US, Singapore still feels like home.

I am Singaporean.
